Private jet charter questions, answered
Pricing, booking, safety and the day of travel, in plain English. Missing something? Ask it in the Notes box of a quote request.
Still deciding?
Ask with a quote
Requesting a quote is free and commits you to nothing. Type it into Notes when you request a quote; the answer comes back with your options.
How do you keep prices lower without cutting corners?
By choosing well, not by choosing cheaper operators. We match the aircraft size to your group and distance, look for aircraft already based near your departure, point out empty legs and better timing, and show every option as an all-in price. Every flight is still operated by an FAA Part 135 (or foreign equivalent) carrier.
What does an all-in quote include?
Flight time, repositioning, crew costs, landing and handling fees, the 7.5% federal excise tax on domestic US charter and the per-passenger segment fees. Costs that depend on the day, such as winter de-icing, are flagged in the quote so you know what could change.
Is there a membership fee or deposit just to ask?
No. Requesting a quote is free, with no membership, deposit or sign-up. Payment only comes into it once you choose an option and sign the charter agreement.
Who actually operates my flight?
A certificated direct air carrier: FAA Part 135 in the US, or the local equivalent overseas. Fly Private Cheap arranges the flight; the operator named in your quote has operational control of the aircraft.
Are empty legs really cheaper?
Often 25–75% below a normal one-way price, because the aircraft is flying that route anyway. The trade-off is a fixed route and time, and the leg can be cancelled if the original trip changes. Great for flexible plans, risky for a wedding.
Can I bring my dog?
Plenty of aircraft take dogs and cats once the operator signs off. Mention how many pets and their size in Notes, and we will only quote aircraft that accept them.
How much luggage fits?
It depends on the aircraft. Light jets suit soft bags; skis, golf clubs and large hard cases may call for a midsize cabin or larger. List bulky items in Notes and we will size the aircraft for them.
Why does a one-way flight cost almost as much as a round trip?
Because the aircraft usually has to fly home empty, and that return is billed. Choosing an aircraft based at your destination, or an empty leg, can bring a one-way price down.
What is the federal excise tax on charter?
Domestic US charter carries a 7.5% federal excise tax on the transportation price, plus a small per-passenger segment fee for each leg. Both are included in our all-in quotes.
What is a daily minimum?
When an aircraft stays away from base with you, many operators bill a minimum of one to two flight hours for each day, even if it does not fly. On longer stays, sending the aircraft home can be cheaper.
Can I book one-way, round-trip and multi-city trips?
Yes, all three, in the US and worldwide. For multi-city trips, enter the first leg in the form and list the other legs and dates in Notes.
How far ahead should I book?
Earlier gives you more aircraft to choose from, especially around holidays. Last-minute trips frequently work out as well, depending on which aircraft are free.
What ID do passengers need?
A government-issued photo ID for domestic flights and a valid passport, plus any visas, for international trips. We confirm requirements for your route before you fly.
How early should I arrive?
Most passengers arrive at the private terminal shortly before departure; international flights need a little longer for document checks. Your itinerary will give the exact time for your trip.
